American Radio in Berlin

I do admit, I never tuned into >>Voice of America (VOA) here in Berlin. It seems they are sending uninteresting music all day with a short news section every hour. That is something I can listen on many radio stations to, without the "american voice". Now it looks like the radio frequency the US forces had allocated here in Berlin is now free for a radio stations to bid for. First it looked like VOA was not too interested in renewing it, but now that another radio is bidding for it they try to get it back. The other radio is >>Nation Public Radio, a group of public radio stations I was lucky enough to tune into while I was in the United States of America. The programme, music selection and reports reminded me of >>DeutschlandFunk. While DeutschlandRadio is probably closer related to VOA, I have the impression the current administration at the White House is more likely to influence VOAs programme than our new Mrs. Chancellor has a chance on DeutschlandRadio.

I really hope NPR wins the frequency. It would be a reason for me to put 87,9 next to >>DeutschlandRadio, >>DeutschlandRadio Kultur, >>Radio Eins, >>Fritz and >>Klassik Radio. They all compete for the 20 minutes every morning and the same amount later the same for on my way back home. Currently, DeutschlandFunks >>Presseschau is my favourite in the moring with a nice selection of press views of the day and Radio 1 makes the round in the afternoon.
